Arena Labs – Arena Strive

A cross-platform healthcare app helping doctors and nurses manage burnout — I led frontend and mobile work across web, iOS, and Android for three years.

Program outcomes:

30% reduction in burnout scores by week 8

42% reported increased workplace happiness

Arena Strive is a coaching platform built for doctors and nurses, combining biometric data from wearables with microlearning and real-time recovery tools. The platform helps reduce burnout, improve stress resilience, and guide clinicians through day-to-day performance challenges.

Reported outcomes from rollout included a 30% reduction in burnout scores by week 8, with 42% of users reporting increased workplace happiness.

The mission of Arena Labs was to help frontline clinicians thrive in high-pressure environments by bringing performance science and human-centered support tools into healthcare. This aim to earn and maintain the trust of our users shaped every decision we made — from technical architecture to how we handled sensitive biometric data.

We built Strive from scratch, initially as a responsive web app, and later transitioned it into a mobile app using Capacitor for native builds. This allowed us to balance fast iteration during R&D with app-store presence for wider rollout.

Alongside the app, we also built a Coaching Portal — a responsive PWA that allowed Arena’s coaches to interact with clinicians via the in-app chat system. The portal offered real-time visibility into user progress and biometric trends, enabling coaches to tailor their support to each individual’s needs. This two-sided approach helped build trust and ensure timely, personalized guidance for users.

As a senior engineer, I played a central role in building and evolving both the clinician-facing app and the internal Coaching Portal. I rewrote unreliable Bluetooth integrations for iOS and Android, aligning APIs and improving sync resilience through queueing and error handling. To support QA and reduce issue resolution time, I built in-app debugging tools and introduced Sentry Replay. I also mentored newer engineers and QA, using Looms, async walkthroughs, and clear feedback systems to help them build confidence and velocity.
